Lo River's Embrace (Sold - 4/2007)
The legendary emperor, Fuxi, had a very beautiful daughter, Fufei (also know
as Mifei). As a child, she was sickly and thin. Her father preferred more
rubenesque females, so he paid very little attention to Fufei. The little waif
grew into a lovely maiden, but because of the lack of fatherly love, was
always sad and forlorn. Her only joy was in exploring nature and its beauty.
One day, she was strolling along the Lo River. The river saw her great
beauty, and began to woo her with images of verdant pastures and happy
families. Entranced by all of this, Fufei wished to become one with the river,
and leave her lonely existence on earth. So the Lo river rose up out of its
banks and transformed itself into a misty veil, enveloping and drawing the
maiden into its bosom.
Several weeks went by before Emperor Fuxi realized one of his daughters
was missing. He searched in vain for her. Then one day, he came upon the Lo
river. As he looked upon the water, a maiden emerged from its depths. With a
start, he recognized his own child, but only now did he realize how beautiful
she truly was. Astounded, he asked her what happened, and when she told him,
he felt such guilt and shame for having neglected her, that he used his
magical powers to immortalize her as the Lo River Goddess.
