Ola Na Iwi Me Na Nana No'eau ("Fisherman / The skills are passed from generation to generation")
The Fisherman
The third from the series, Ola Na Iwi Me Na Nana No'eau (the
skill passed on to new generations), shows a boy on the rocks. As he throws
the net across the waves, the spirit of a fisherman guides his hands. This one
depicts the spirit kia'i as the teacher, the guide.
Sons and daughters of Hawai'i, do you know what it is to stand in the
very footprints of the ones who have walked before you and to feel the mana of
knowing who you are and from where you have come?
In Ola Na Iwi Me na Hana No'eau, Leohone invites you to stand
with her extended family on the rocks at Pale Kai near Hilo on the Big Island.
As the sun sinks low in the sky, the past and present quietly merge...and
become as one...
