Lake Tahoe - Schurr
In the Spring of 1983 I had a show at the Spectrum Gallery, Tahoe City, California, and the gallery owners, Judy and Gene, asked me if I would do an image of the lake in the near future. The show was my first visit to Tahoe and my visual experience of the area, up to that point, was very limited. Judy and Gene proceeded to give me a whirlwind tour including a panoramic view of the Lake from Desolation Wilderness, a spectacular preserve above the Lake's western shore. When I arrived back at my studio, I began a series of drawings based on my "Tahoe" experience. The painting that I finally completed is an idealized view of Tahoe. In the distance are the Sierra Nevada of the Nevada side and the bay in the foreground, Emerald Bay. I began the Tahoe serigraph in December, 1993 and completed the edition by Spring of 1984. The Spectrum Gallery launched the print in June and by the end of the summer the edition was sold out. The remaining pieces are artist proofs and have remained in my posession since their printing.
