A legend from Punalu'u on the Big Island tells of Kauila, a honu (turtle) who could be a girl above water. She was loved by the villagers for she watched over the children playing at the beach. At night she would return to the water to sleep. Ginger Lei Saleras dances a seated hula about Kauila beckoning us to honor and respect this ancient species.
